Pennsylvania, bought his first Runt three months ago. He sold it before it was out of the box.

“They are one of the sillier things we’ve sold, but we can’t keep them in stock,” Rosenblum said.

Chris Hall, owner of CG Bike in Fountain Hills, Arizona, was one of the first retailers to stock Wysco’s bikes. He sold 85 by July. Used stationary bikes and indonesia furniture handicraft wholesale marketplace special ellausedstationarybikes.wordpress.com

Whether the circus bikes are a legitimate fad or just this summer’s flash in the pan has yet to be decided, but with Huffy jumping on the bandwagon and throwing its ad dollars into the fire most believe the trend will last through Christmas, but not much beyond that.

“We want to be out of inventory by Dec. 24 and have our retailers out on Dec. 26,” said Bill Smith, Huffy’s vice president of sales and marketing.

Others worry that the price erosion that left scooters selling for less than $30 at the end of last year will tarnish mini-bike profits.

Craig Elias, of Wysco’s product and media division, claimed his company is staunchly maintaining minimum suggested retail prices.Used stationary bikes and indonesia furniture handicraft wholesale marketplace special ellausedstationarybikes.wordpress.com

“We are letting independent retailers have a crack at them first, keeping our prices up and are not whoring them out in the market like scooters,” he said.

Razor’s Hadley added that building mini-bikes is more complicated than scooters and with companies that operate on strict pricing and distribution controls hitting the market first, the likelihood of $20 knock-off bikes is slim.

Most retailers are selling Runt bikes for $100, making a 30 to 35 percent margin. Huffy’s three Monkey bike models, however, will retail for significantly less at $69.

The target consumer is boys eight to 14 years-old, but the bikes have a 300-pound weight limit and many college students and parents are buying Runts.

Because the market for mini-bikes is narrower than that for scooters, Huffy’s Smith estimates that the mini-bike sales will be a quarter to a third of the scooter market.Used stationary bikes and indonesia furniture handicraft wholesale marketplace special ellausedstationarybikes.wordpress.com
